Philadelphia Flyers’ Riley Cote will School Viewers on Medical Cannabis and Trauma on Cannabis Planet
Author: Benjamin M. Adams 09/11/2017 - 19:49:00

Former Philadelphia Flyers enforcer Riley Cote will talk about Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) in the National Hockey League (NHL), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and how medical cannabis can help on this weekend’s episode of Cannabis Planet. He’ll be joined by experts to discuss innovative ways that medical cannabis can be a healing tool.

The former hockey star says that the time to end the stigma is past due. “Prohibition has affected our society in many negative ways, we have a health crisis, and an opioid crisis and cannabis can re-connect us with the natural world,” Cote stated in a press release.

Most cannabis advocates are already aware of the prevalence of CTE in the National Football League, but head trauma is extremely common in hockey as well. During his professional career, Riley Cote was involved in over 250 fights on the ice. Obviously, he sustained a great deal of trauma over the years. Eventually he found relief in medical cannabis which led him to become one of the plant’s biggest advocates.

Dr. Christopher Fichtner is the former Mental Health Director for the State of Illinois and a clinical psychologist. Dr. Fichtner will be joining Cote on the episode of Cannabis Planet. Cannabis, as many of us already know, is dream suppressant, and therefore may be useful to mitigate PTSD-related nightmares. “Many veterans that suffer from PTSD report that they sleep better, are less irritable and their nightmares are less of a problem when they use herbal cannabis,” Fichtner said.

The show also includes features such as Cannabis Cooking with Chef Mike Delao, Hemp Facts with newscaster Pat Finerty and the“Higher Perspective”with comedian Ngaio Bealum and a musical guest.

Cannabis Planet airs each weekend on independent stations around the country and listings are available here. You can find Cannabis Planet in Los Angeles (KJLA), Chicago (WOCK), Philadelphia (WACP), Washington D.C. (WMDE) and Palm Beach (WHDT). A sneak preview is available here.
