Dorit Cohen is no ordinary person. She was a former biology teacher who, in 2004, founded Tikun Olam. The company is in an undisclosed located in the northern region of Israel. It is a facility where they research and develop cannabis for medical use.

It started when Dorit began growing marijuana inside her home. Her primary purpose then was to help cancer patients. From a humble beginning, she went on to found a company that now occupies some 11,000 square meters. Although they never disclosed how much they are charging for treatments and sale of cannabis, they do state on their website that financial problems should never stop people from receiving treatments. Hence, for people who cannot afford, the company supplies medical cannabis free of charge.

In honor of the woman who started everything, one strain they bred was named after her. Dorit is an Indica-dominant strain that provides medical benefits to users without the usual psychoactive effects associated with the use of marijuana.

We know that the product is good, but where it came from remains a closely guarded secret. In fact, even the facility itself is not accessible to the public. It is also heavily guarded by Israeli police. For that reason, we may never know the genetics of Dorit or the process involved in breeding the strain.

Needless to say, so as long as it gives comfort to people in need, all is good.

Effects

Tikun Olam strains are notable for their lack of psychoactive properties. In fact, hybrids such as Avidekel, an Indica-dominant strain like Dorit, contains only 1% THC. However, specific condition or situations may also require the need for strains with higher THC content. And this is where Dorit comes in with 20% THC.

Even if it comes with such high THC content, it is also not likely to cause psychedelic or narcotic-like effects. Such has been the trait of all the strain from Tikun Olam. With its 30% Sativa side, it has enough potency to send an uplifting sensation and euphoric buzz to users. While doing so, it is also accompanied by a tingling sensation all over the body. The net result is that users have a clear-headed high with a heightened sense of focus. Feeling motivated, they are able to do their task with better efficiency and glee.

Meanwhile, its Indica side blends in with the cerebral high and does not allow it to overwhelm users. It also helps calms the muscles and the body. As a result, users remain productive but feel completely relaxed.

Dorit does not cause hazy or foggy mind. It does not have the intense cerebral high that others with similar THC are associated with and the kind that can cause mental confusion. While the Indica traits have anti-inflammatory properties, it does not cause people to have a couch-lock.

Fragrance

Everything about Dorit is nice and gentle. Even her fragrance can be described as refreshing with the aroma of fresh earth and a sweet note.

Flavors

While her aroma is too straightforward, her flavor is a mix of contrasting flavors. It has a more pronounced taste of herbs, but it also comes with a peppery, spicy note mixed with the fruity taste of orange.

Adverse Reaction

Tikun Olam creates hybrids with less pronounced or non-existent psychoactive effects. Hence, about the only side effects of using Dorit is not that any different from using others. It can cause some people to have dry mouth and eyes.

Other than that, there are no reports of other side effects. Such is a testament to the quality of Dorit and its careful breeding.

Medical

The Indice side of Dorit delivers a soothing effect that comes with anti-inflammatory properties. Hence, one of its most significant benefits is in pain relief. Even if one usage lasts for only a few hours, that is still hours of comfort for patients with chronic illnesses.

Also, the combined effects of both the mental and body high are also very conducive to relaxation. Hence, it is useful in eliminating stress. A side benefit of stress relief is in helping people control or manage their emotions. Such is very important especially for people with depression and other mental health illnesses.

Growing

It appears the Dorit should thrive in greenhouses or in the outdoors. Unfortunately, seeds are not available. As mentioned earlier, the facility itself is a secret and so it is not likely the company will ever publish information on its cultivation.

Flowering Time

Indoors
The chances are high that the company cultivates Dorit inside one of their two large greenhouses. Instead of using soil as a medium to enhance its flavors, it is more practical to grow it using hydroponics to improve its yield. Once it is ready for harvest, it should be able to produce anywhere from 12 to 16 ounces of buds.

Outdoors
Grown outdoors, Dorit should have no problem at all in a warm climate. But we think it is also quite tolerant of the weather. Hence it should thrive even in a temperate environment. Each plant should be able to have a yield of at least 12 ounces of buds.

Have you ever smoked or grown your own Dorit? Please let me know what you think about this marijuana strain in the comments below.
