Got Seasonal Depression? Try Cannabis!
Author: Sarah  16/01/2018 - 01:49:00

It’s January, one of the darkest months of the year. The excitement of the holidays are over, and now it seems like it’s going to be just one long and dreary slog until April. Forget seems like, it is going to be a long and dreary slog until Spring. This is the worst time of the year for a lot of people. For most of us, this winter has consisted of nothing but dealing with snow, ice, and getting our respective vehicles unstuck from the aforementioned snow and ice. Unless you are lucky enough to live in California, or someplace warm, snow, ice, cold and misery are your reality for the next five months or so. For a lot of people, this also means Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), aka seasonal depression.

Luckily, cannabis can be quite effective when it’s used to treat all kinds of depression, including seasonal depression. If you’re having trouble finding a treatment for depression that works, you might consider trying cannabis. Of course, I’m not a doctor, and I’m not giving you medical advice. You should always talk to a doctor before making any major medical decisions.

Make Sure You Pick The Right Strain

Some strains are great for treating depression, and others only make the symptoms worse. Hence the importance of making sure that you’re smoking the right strain. The next time you hit up your local dispensary, just ask your friendly neighborhood budtender what they would recommend. They will be more than happy to help you.

What Strains Should I Smoke?

There are tons of strains that are extremely well-suited for treating depression. In most cases you’ll want to try to find a strain that is known for giving a relaxing, and more euphoric high. If your type of depression makes it difficult for you to get out of bed in the morning, then you might try a strain a little higher in THC. If on the other hand, you suffer from anxiety as well, then you’ll definitely be better off with a strain higher in CBD. This is why it helps to talk to a budtender!

If you’re using cannabis for seasonal depression, then the best strain for you is most likely a low THC strain like Cannatonic, Charlotte’s Web, Harlequin, or Sour Tsunami. Low CBD strains tend to counteract the negative effects of high CBD strains and in some cases eliminate them entirely. One of these low THC/ high CBD strains might be the best for you.

Everyone I know with seasonal depression who also uses cannabis to treat it, swears by it. I’ve used cannabis to treat anxiety and depression, and nothing else has ever worked as well. If you’re currently taking any other medications, you should definitely go talk to a doctor, as any medications you are taking could interact badly with cannabinoids.

Once again, I cannot reiterate enough that I am not a doctoe. You ahould alwats consult your physician if you are planning on adding any more meds to your daily regimen.
